Description
Postdoctoral Research Scientist
Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford Grade 7: £32,817 – £40,322 per annum (A less experienced candidate may be appointed at Grade 6 (£29,176 – £34,804 p.a.) with a commensurate adjustment in essential criteria, responsibilities and duties)
This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral research scientist to make a substantial contribution to a MRC funded multi-disciplinary research programme led by Professor Huiling Tan.
The project aims to: investigate the role of oscillatory electrophysiological brain activities in motor control, affective processing and decision making; understand how abnormal interactions between brain cells cause symptoms in neurological and psychiatric disorders; use invasive and non-invasive brain stimulation to probe the causal relationship between neural network dynamics and behaviour; leverage these insights to pioneer closed-loop approaches to therapeutic brain stimulation for better treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders.
The postholder will manage their own academic research and administrative activities including small scale project management and to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.
They will also provide guidance to junior members of the research group including research assistants, PhD students and/or project volunteers.
The postholder will prepare working theories and analyse qualitative and/or quantitative data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining theories as appropriate, they will also contribute ideas for new research projects.
It is essential that the successful candidate hold or is close to completing a relevant PhD/DPhil or equivalent in a quantitative discipline (e.g. computer science, engineering, physics) or neuroscience.
It is also vital that the postholder has experience with designing, programming and setting up experiments with human participants with simultaneous electrophysiological records (such as EEG, LFP, MEG) or brain stimulation manipulation.
Strong programming skills and experience in signal processing are also essential to the role.
It would be beneficial if the postholder has experience of computational modelling and machine learning algorithms and experience in real-time signal acquisition and processing.
The post is full-time for a fixed-term of up to 30 months in the first instance.
Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 23rd August 2021 will be considered.
Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
