Job Description
Position Summary
The Mbalaviele and Veis labs are seeking a postdoc to elucidate the mechanisms through which inflammasomes regulate the skeleton in response to tissue injury and infection. The approaches include the use of genetically engineered mice, histological and structural analyses (such as with microCT), confocal microscopy, culture of primary murine and human cells, and the analysis of data from unbiased profiling techniques such as RNAseq.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- In concert with the mentors, design experiments with appropriate controls and execute research protocols based on methods in the literature.
- Work towards independence in the design and execution of research projects.
- Analyze results and present data at lab meetings.
- Participate in preparation of publications and grant proposals.
- Work directly with collaborators, initiate new collaborative relationships, establish mentoring relationships, and develop an independent project.
- Acquire new technical and/or laboratory skills.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Highly motivated, eager and quick to learn; careful, organized, and reliable.
- Ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and collaborating investigators.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Computer literacy, including the ability to use a variety of software packages to store, analyze, and present data (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Experience with bioinformatics/large datasets.
- Expertise in cell culture and molecular biology, big data analysis (e.g., RNAseq, proteomics), mouse genotyping, and protein analysis (Western blot and ELISA), and FACS.
- Experience with histology, including immunostaining and confocal microscopy.
Working Conditions
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Salary Range
Base pay is commensurate with experience.
