Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM) located on the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences Campus in Piscataway, New Jersey, USA.
The Quantitative Evolutionary Microbiology Laboratory, led by Prof. Michael Manhart, is seeking an outstanding Postdoctoral Fellow. Our lab seeks to understand how fundamental evolutionary processes shape the ecology and cellular physiology of microbial communities, using experimental, computational, and theoretical approaches. We are especially interested in contributing to fundamental microbiology that can benefit human health.
This position will be based at Rutgers University, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (Piscataway, NJ, USA). The fellow will also be an active member of the Rutgers University Microbiome Program.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Michael Manhart, the Postdoctoral Fellow will develop and conduct research projects, present at local and international meetings, write papers, apply for fellowships and other funding, and mentor students and other lab members. The position will focus on a new collaborative project aimed at understanding the predictability of evolution across biological scales and ecological diversity in communities of pathogenic Candida yeast. The candidate may also work on projects to other major research directions in the lab, including microbial population dynamics and the effect of metabolic interactions on evolution.
The fellow can expect three years of support contingent on satisfactory performance and funding availability, with the possibility of additional years of support contingent on funding availability and mutual agreement. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications, with the minimum set by NIH-NRSA stipend levels.
Our group values an inclusive culture, and we strongly encourage applications from a diverse range of candidates.
If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Michael Manhart at mmanhart@rutgers.edu.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Develop and conduct research projects focused on predicting evolution, the evolution of microbial growth dynamics, and the effect of ecological interactions on adaptation in microbial communities.
Present scientific research findings at local and international meetings, as requested by the PI.
Write and publish scientific manuscripts.
Apply for fellowships and contribute to the preparation of research grant applications.
Mentor students and other lab members.
