Postdoctoral Associate
Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Chemistry or a closely related field in hand by May 31st, 2024.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in organic, inorganic, or organometallic molecular synthesis, catalysis,
electrosynthesis, electrocatalysis. Candidates are expected to have a strong background in synthesis and catalysis, preferably in organometallic synthesis/catalysis and/or electrosynthesis and electrocatalysis.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate (PDA) will assist the Principal Investigator Dr. Quinton Bruch in the department of Chemistry and theBruch Lab . The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
The successful applicant will join the PI’s research group in the Department of Chemistry at Stony Brook University and perform research to develop new approaches to organometallic (electro)catalysis. We are searching for a highly motivated and creative researcher that is interested in engineering catalysts and reaction environments to control organometallic (electro)catalysis. The candidate must have an interest in using spectroscopic and electrochemical tools to study the fundamental mechanisms of organometallic (electro)catalysis.
In addition to candidates with backgrounds in electrocatalysis and organometallic catalysis, we welcome candidates with backgrounds in electrochemistry, electrosynthesis, and molecular synthesis provided they have a strong interest in developing skills in (electro)catalysis. The candidate should also possess good verbal and written communication skills in English, the ability to work productively independently and in collaborative environments, possess strong problem-solving skills, experience in mentoring junior researchers, and a strong commitment to supporting a positive safety culture.
Regular duties will include:
● Synthesis, purification, and characterization of organic and inorganic molecules,
including organometallic complexes.
● Optimization of synthetic transformations and catalysis.
● Developing electrochemical reactions.
● Investigate the mechanism and kinetics of catalytic transformations using spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques.
● Assist in preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals and/or preparing presentations for scientific conferences.
● Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
● Attending scientific conferences and meetings, mentoring junior researchers, and upholding laboratory safety culture.
● Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
