The role
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute a research project at the heart of a dynamic department with a reputation in developing successful, research-led programmes. Our varied programmes aim to nurture students’ inquisitive minds and to transform them into critical-thinking professionals.
You will carry out research for a Leverhulme funded project, Taking Creativity out of the Mind and into the World.
The work focuses on creativity and problem solving, exploring the role of interactivity in discovering the solution to insight problems. The methodology is experimental but also involves video recording participants as they engage with the task and then analysing the video data to better understand the origin of the new ideas that unlock solutions to the problems.
Responsibilities:
- The post-doctoral researcher will oversee the day-to-day management of the project. The post-doc researcher will manage the recruitment and running of the participants.
- The post-doctoral researcher will manage the project using the Open Science platform. All experiments will be pre-registered (hypotheses and analysis strategy); all materials employed (all tasks) will be placed on the OSF. For each experiment, all transcripts from the video recordings will be anonymized and placed on the OSF; illustrative videos for the different solution processes will be anonymized and placed on the OSF. All videos will be made available for researchers who wish to use them.
- The post-doctoral researcher will contribute to the preparation of the data for scientific conferences as well as co-authoring any publications resulting from this project.
This is a 24-month project that runs from 1st March 2024.
The person
You will hold a PhD in the field of Psychology.
Constantly seeking to improve, you will scrutinise your own work, build private and public sector networks, and work collaboratively, contributing to the preparation of the data for scientific conferences as well as co-authoring any publications resulting from this project.
Knowledge & Qualifications
- PhD in psychology
- Experience managing and analysing quantitative data
- Experience with qualitative research methods
- Good knowledge of open research practices

- Excellent oral and written communication, and presentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and team working skills.
- Excellent track record of problem solving, and analytical skills developed in a relevant environment.
- Able to work on strict deadlines and deliver results on time.
Further information
This is a full-time (1FTE, 37 hours per week), 24-month fixed-term position with a starting salary of £43,187 per annum.
