The Cardiac Genetics Group is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic bioinformatics postdoc for a 2-year position to commence 1st of March 2024 or soon thereafter.  You will be part of our team leading research on elucidation the genetic mechanisms underlying complex heart disease.

Our research
Our research aims are to understand cardiac arrhythmias and structural heart diseases through genetics. In recent years we have also focused on the relationship between structural cardiac disease and vascular function.  In this project we will investigate the genetics behind such interactions. 

The ideal candidate has a strong interest in learning and applying new bioinformatics techniques, and has a strong publication record in within genetics and human disease in high-level international scientific journals.
An interest in teaching and mentoring is also diseasble, as you will be expected to contribute towards the departments teaching activities  and supervision of BSc, MSs and PhD students within the group. 

We are thus looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic scientist with the following skills and experiences:

Essential qualifications

• You hold a PhD in cardiac genetics, genetics, computational biology or bioinformatics. 
• You have excellent skills in programming languages such as Python or R, Linux, and Git version control and experience working on high-performance clusters
• Experience in handling and analyzing large patient or biological datasets, e.g. UK Biobank
• Experience with various bioinformatics analytics approaches, and techniques
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
• Interest and curiosity within the field of translational science, e.g., pharmacology, cardiovascular disease, and clinical translation
• Documented experience in performing GWAS and ExWAS

Desirable qualtifications

• A strong publication record with first authorships in leading journals
• Knowledge of cardiac arrhythmia and structural heart disease
• Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills
• Strong foundation in statistics and machine learning
• Self-sufficient and able to lead projects from start to end

The employment is within the Cardiac Genetics Group at the Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMI), Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
