Applications are sought for a committed Post-doctoral Research Fellow to work with Prof Kishan Dholakia conducting research for a European Union funded project entitled PROSCOPE: developing a new optical guided colonoscopy for the earlier detection and better treatment of the second leading cause of cancer deaths in Europe.
The work is based within the Optical Manipulation Group in the School of Physics and Astronomy. The group aims to build upon a range of internationally recognized work in the area of photonics and its applications at St Andrews. The specific topic area of this post is the development of new techniques in advanced optical imaging in biophotonics and their translation to clinical research.
The primary duties will be to play a leading role in developing and implementing new forms of light sheet microscopy. The imaging will be conducted with a range of biological samples, including zebrafish and other marine organisms, and human tissue. The post-holder will be required to undertake both experimental work and numerical studies.
The successful applicant will have (or be near to completion of) a PhD in Photonics or Microscope Development with expertise in one or more of: multiphoton imaging; light sheet imaging; hyperspectral imaging; the development and application of numerical methods of deep learning or multivariate analysis applied to image analysis.
The post is available for 12 months in the first instance, with possible extension period depending on funding and satisfactory progress in the role measured via the probation process, starting as soon as possible.
