Job Description
Outstanding career training opportunities in metabolism and nutrition-related biomedical research in the research programs of 30 faculty from 11 departments at UW-Madison, a tier-one research institution.
The Metabolism and Nutrition Training Program (MANTP) has postdoctoral (PhD, MD) training positions in five research focus areas:
i) Genetics and Nutrition;
ii) Gut Microbiome;
iii) Mechanisms Controlling Nutrient Metabolism and Action;
iv) Nutrition-linked Metabolic Disease;
v) Population Health Nutrition.
Training includes NIH-level salary, in-depth assistance in grant writing and review and seminar presentation, funding for unique professional development activities, development of mentoring skills, and opportunities to develop a teaching portfolio. Job requirements:
Postdoctoral researchers (trainee) are expected to aggressively pursue research goals in collaboration with their mentor to develop into independent researchers who will become a leader in their field. The trainee will submit an NIH F fellowship with advice and input from their mentor. The trainee also participates in mock fellowship review sessions with other trainees in the program.
Each trainee must complete an ethics class as mandated by the NIH. Multiple opportunities for professional development include participation in the MANTP Journal Club and Research Seminar; attending breakfasts with invited speakers; completing an annual progress report for discussion with the MANTP director and presenting annual research talks including in a chalk talk “big-picture” format; completing an Individual Development Plan (IDP), which can be discussed with the MANTP director; presenting a poster at the annual Spring research retreat; mentor undergraduate or graduate students in research; develop their teaching skills and portfolio by participating in the UW Madison DELTA program if desired; and participate in at least one professional development activity from a range of those available at UW-Madison.
