RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS).
Position summary
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the Perioperative Care and Outcomes Research (PCOR) group at the RI-MUHC Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE). The main goal of PCOR is the generation of knowledge to support evidence-based surgical care and improve postoperative outcomes in Canada and worldwide. Our work capitalizes on established and emerging principles of outcomes research to (1) create innovative, patient-centered, strategies to measure postoperative outcomes, (2) assess the comparative-effectiveness of contemporary interventions to enhance recovery and (3) develop approaches to reduce harms associated with perioperative care interventions. PCOR is a highly productive and internationally renowned research group with a track record of important contributions to the field of surgical outcomes research (https://www.mcgill.ca/pcorlab/).
Qualified candidates should be highly motivated and self-driven, with a track record of research success as evidenced by first-author publications in highly ranked scientific journals.
General Duties
• Work with the principal investigator to coordinate the development of a PROM to assess recovery after abdominal surgery (60%),
• Train students and other research personnel (5%),
• Liaise with external collaborators (5%),
• Engage in management and administrative duties related to the research program (5%),
• Assist with the preparation of reports, manuscripts and grant applications (10%),
• Present work at internal, local, national, and international meetings (10%),
• Engage in graduate and undergraduate teaching opportunities (5%).
Education / Experience
Education: Doctorate Degree
Field of Study: Recent PhD diploma in a relevant field (health sciences and/or psychometrics)
Work Experience:
• Knowledge and experience with psychometric testing of patient-reported outcome measures,
• A track record of research success as evidenced by first-author publications in highly ranked scientific journals.
Other Requirements:
• Excellent organization, planning, and project management skills,
• Superior English written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Assets:
• Experience with the implementation of Rasch Analysis and/or Item-Response Theory,
• Experience with research focused on surgical patients or patients with acute conditions,
• Knowledge of statistics and statistical packages (e.g. RUMM, Stata, R),
• Knowledge of data management using REDCap,
• Ability to communicate in French.
