Job Details:
General Notes
The Pierce Lab belongs to the Department of Neuroscience at The University of Texas at Austin with associations with the Center for Learning and Memory, as well as the Waggoner Center for Alcohol & Addiction Research. Our established lab has standard equipment for C. elegans experiments, a vibrant team of undergraduate volunteers, and a supportive lab manager. We are looking for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow to join our lab. Postdoctoral Fellow positions are for one year, and are renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward research goals.
Austin, Texas is a vibrant city with regular music and movie festivals, sports teams (Big 12, FC soccer, F1 racing), a great food scene, and beautiful outdoor spaces.
Purpose
Postdoctoral Fellow will study the cellular-molecular genetic bases for behavioral and immunological responses to alcohol and its relation to neuroimmune responses in alcohol use disorders in humans.
We have an exciting new way of studying this topic with C. elegans and have collaborations lined up with members of the Waggoner Center for Alcohol & Addiction Research to relate results to mouse and human patients. Besides alcohol responses, our lab studies a wide variety of neuroscience topics including the cellular-molecular-genetic bases for Down syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease, autism spectrum conditions, and magnetosensation. We pair novel behavioral assays with genetic and live microscopy approaches with an evolutionary perspective to elucidate conserved mechanisms that govern behavior.
