瑞典乌默奥大学博士后职位招聘–生物物理学/感染生物学或细胞生物学方向
We are looking for Postdoctoral candidates interested in investigating the role of bacterial pore-forming toxins in host-pathogen interactions.
The position
The successful candidate is expected to execute the following tasks:
– Investigate how bacterial pore-forming toxins target intracellular organelles of the target cell using several cellular model systems, including intestinal organoids.
– Develop live-cell imaging approaches and image analysis tools to investigate the kinetics of bacterial pore-forming toxins binding to targeted cell membranes, followed by their intracellular uptake.
– Investigate the dysfunction of cellular organelles mediated by pore-forming toxins, followed by cell death.
– Identify the role of bacterial pore-forming toxins in the long-term adaptation of intracellular bacteria in Acanthamoeba castellanii.
– Participate in the development and analysis of high-throughput imaging methodologies to extract information from large datasets generated from the SparCyto imaging system.
– Develop and write one or more annual publications arising from the above research, as well as abstracts to be presented at national and/or international meetings.
– Present progress on your work regularly in laboratory and departmental meetings.
– Teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students who will collectively assist with the research within the laboratory.
Qualifications
Requirements include a doctorate in Biophysics, Infection Biology, or Cell Biology. Experience in live-cell microscopy and electron microscopy is preferred but not required. Additional expertise in the development of molecular biology techniques is also preferred. Effective communication and writing skills are highly desirable.
The lab and environment
The team is led by PI Aftab Nadeem, and is currently composed of a Postdoctoral fellow and two MSc students. We are supported by outstanding core facilities at Umeå University. The lab is committed to an inclusive environment based on mutual respect, diversity of background, and open sharing of data and ideas. We are excited to grow the team with these core principles front of mind. Through association with the Umeå Center for Microbial Research (UCMR), there are excellent opportunities for scientific and professional development. Sweden is a fantastic place for early career researchers, with a variety of grants aimed at postdocs acquiring their own research funding, access to state-funded childcare and a commitment to good work-life balance.
Interested? Apply by January 5th, 2024 at 23:59 CET.
Contact Aftab ([Please click the Apply button for the link or address]) for more information or to submit an application. An application consists of a cover letter summarizing your expertise and interests, a CV, and contact details for 2-3 references. The candidates can start immediately after selection. If you are just about to finish your PhD, feel free to get in touch.
