About Us
The UEL BabyDev Lab (www.uelbabydev.com) currently consists of 17 full-time postdocs, PhDs and administrators funded by active grants from funders including the ERC, EU, and Research Councils UK. We are located in Newham, East London, at the heart of one of the most socio-demographically mixed areas of the world, and a major focus of our research is investigating how early home & educational environments – both the physical environment (e.g. noise, green space) and the social environments (e.g. caregiver mental health, and caregiver contingency/predictability) affect executive control & stress development during the 0-5 years age range. To do this, we use child- and adult-worn home wearable devices, consisting of camera, microphone, physio monitor, proximity, and GPS; and we collect child-adult dual-brain naturalistic recordings using EEG & fNIRS.
The university has recently invested £2 million in new state-of-the-art testing facilities. In the last 5 years our research has been published in journals including Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences (twice), PLoS Biology, Current Biology (twice), eLife (three times), Trends in Cognitive Sciences and others (see list of sample publications here.
