To pursue continued education and experience in research under the general supervision of two senior co-mentors. This research position will help analyze data collected as part of a USDA-funded interdisciplinary study of the environmental and socioeconomic tradeoffs associated with different approaches to integrating crop and livestock production. We have collected detailed soil, crop, manure, feed, and socioeconomic information from 31 farms (and 84 replicated fields) over 2 field seasons.
Duties will include:
- Cleaning and integration of multidisciplinary field datasets (10%)
- Statistical analysis. Use of descriptive statistics to identify statistically significant differences across fields with different management histories. Use multivariate statistical modeling to characterize agronomic and environmental impacts associated with the use of different field management practices (particularly use of manure and perennials in rotation with cash crops). (50%).
- Writing academic manuscripts for peer reviewed publication. Preparation of presentations and attending, participating, or presenting at meetings, seminars, and conferences as needed. Preparation of print and digital materials and presentation of applied summaries of project findings to outreach extension audiences. (40%).
Supervision
This position will be based on the OSU Wooster campus and will report to Dr. Douglas Jackson-Smith and Dr. Steve W. Lyon (co-mentors).
Desired Education and Experience
A doctoral degree in agronomy, horticulture, or soil science or any related discipline (e.g., environmental/ agricultural engineering) with a background in agriculture, crop, and/or livestock systems is required. Experience working with multivariate statistical analysis and experience working on interdisciplinary projects is desired.
