瑞典斯德哥尔摩大学博士后职位招聘–化学或物理学方向
The Department of Materials- and Environmental Chemistry (MMK) with about 160 employees is one of the largest departments at the Faculty of Natural sciences at Stockholm University (SU). Research activities of MMK focus primarily on development and characterization of advanced and sustainable materials, and include different classes such as ceramics, polymers, self-assembled, porous materials, and soft matter. The projects often encompass synthesis, and
characterization by X-ray, neutron diffraction, electron microscopy, solid-state NMR, and computer modelling of materials with a potential for various applications to address important challenges in energy, environment and health.
Project description
Project Leader: Prof. Alexander Lyubartsev, E-mail: alexander.lyubartsev@mmk.su.se
Efficient drugs for the treatment of diseases are a critical need for society. A crucial step in drug development is to obtain the optimal solid form of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), which is challenging because most active pharmaceutical ingredients are able to adopt different solid forms (polymorphs), crystalline as well as amorphous, and form co-crystals in combination with certain compounds. It is therefore imperative to develop new crystallization
methods.
This project is one part of a research program lead by Prof. Xiaodong Zou (PI), involving several research groups at SU with a wide palette of expertise in material synthesis and characterization by experiments and modelling. The postdoc in the present project will perform modelling of co-crystal formation and prediction of possible structures of API at varying thermodynamic conditions and solvents.
Research tasks
We are looking for a postdoc researcher who will be primarily involved in application of molecular dynamics simulations, including advanced sampling methods, and eventually
machine learning techniques, to model and predict co-crystal structures, and evaluate some important properties such as solubility. The selected candidate is expected to be able to plan, execute, and present result of the research in scientific papers and oral presentations. The postdoc will collaborate with other project members that have expertise in synthesis and materials characterization.
Qualification Requirements
The applicant should have a PhD degree in Chemistry or Physics, and a well-documented experience in physical and computational chemistry. The degree must have been completed at latest before the the scholarship decision is made, but no more than 3 years before the closing date of the application period. An older degree may be acceptable under special
circumstances: such reasons encompass sick leave, parental leave, elected positions in trade unions, service in the total defence, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical
attachment or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.
The applicant should have excellent skills in the English language, both written and spoken. The applicant should be able to take initiatives and cooperate well in group. Highly motivated researchers with a background in chemistry or physics, with a focus in theoretical, computational or physical chemistry are encouraged to apply.
Selection criteria
The selection will be based primarily on scientific excellence and well-documented experience of using molecular dynamics and other computational methods in chemistry.
Ability to program is advantageous. The choice of candidate will be based on documented theoretical knowledge relevant to the area, published papers, references, interview, and the candidate’s written motivation for seeking the position.
Scholarship
The position is funded by a scholarship for one year, with possible prolongation for the second year. The scholarship may only be awarded to a non-Swedish citizen with PhD taken outside of Sweden. The amount of the scholarship and the starting date is negotiable. Stockholm University strives to be a workplace free from discrimination and with equal opportunities for all.
