Assistant Researcher Position in Climate Science at UCLA
The Center for Climate Science at the University of California Los Angeles seeks an Assistant Researcher to take a lead role in conducting and organizing research related to climate change and the global hydrologic cycle. The successful candidate will be closely mentored by Prof. Alex Hall. The term would initially be for two years, but is renewable, contingent on funding and satisfactory progress.
Initially, the Assistant Researcher will focus on coordinating recently funded projects. Over time, the Assistant Researcher will take responsibility for developing and maintaining a strong research program by managing a team of students and postdocs; coordinating interdisciplinary research with other entities on campus, as well as external collaborators; and pursuing funding opportunities. The candidate’s research interests should center on using global and regional climate models to understand climate change impacts on drought, fire weather, and extreme precipitation.
Qualifications:
·Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
·Postdoctoral research experience and strong publication record required.
·Experience mentoring students and writing grants is desirable.
·Effective oral and written communication skills, and strong programming and analytical skills.
How to Apply:
Applicants should submit
(1) a statement of research interests and goals, no longer than one page,
(2) a complete CV, including contact information for three references
(3) a cover letter that highlights relevant experience, and describes alignment with the mission of the Center for Climate Science. Efforts and interest in action around climate change, sustainability, and diversity and inclusion in STEM are especially welcome.
These materials should be addressed to Elease Lui Stemp at elstemp@atmos.ucla.edu . Please identify the position in the subject header and mention where you saw this posting in the body of the email. Consideration of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
About the Center for Climate Science
We conduct research that helps communities better understand how climate change will affect them and how to respond. We work with communities to produce information they can put into action, and we engage the public, so they are empowered to advocate for their futures. In the process, we build interdisciplinary research teams that bring to the table expertise in climate science, ecology, policy, and other vital fields. We also train the next generation of scientists to think outside the traditional boxes of academia and solve problems in the real world.
