英国埃克塞特大学博士后职位招聘–分子微生物学或生物物理学方向
This full-time post is available from the 8th of January 2024 until the 31st of October 2025.
The Post
The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate or Fellow depending on qualifications and experience. The successful applicant will work in the group of Prof Stefano Pagliara and will be part of the MultiDefence research consortium. The overarching aim of this project is to develop a broader understanding of multi-layered bacterial genome defence systems, at scales ranging from molecules to populations.
This project is funded by a BBSRC sLoLa award and involves leading researchers at the Universities of Exeter, Bath, Bristol, Durham, Liverpool, Manchester and St Andrews. The successful applicant will have extensive expertise in molecular microbiology or biophysics.
During this project, the successful candidate will discover new bacterial defence systems and
will identify novel therapies that eradicate drug-resistant bacteria. The successful applicant will use biophysical and molecular biology approaches to understand how the interactions between genome defence systems protect individual bacteria against phage infection and antimicrobial treatment.
About You
PDRA: The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or be nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in molecular microbiology or biophysics and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.
PDRF: The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, write high impact publications, present their work at international conferences and contribute to the process of securing funding.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification in molecular microbiology or biophysics. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in molecular microbiology or biophysics and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to perform microbiology assays using ESKAPE pathogens or other pathogenic bacteria, perform single-cell assays using microscopy and ideally possess previous experience in microfluidics or molecular biology.
