The post
The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Dr Mary O’Leary. This is an Innovate UK funded post, in collaboration with Advanced Growers Ltd. The post is available from January 2024 and is funded for a period of 20 months. The successful applicant will manage a randomised controlled trial investigating the effect of a proprietary blend of microvegetables on inflammation and metabolism in humans. This will involve recruiting and liaising with participants. Analytical techniques such as multiplex immunoassays and proteomics will be employed.

About you
The successful applicant will have excellent communication and organisational skills. They will possess a relevant PhD (or be nearing its completion). It is essential that they be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of human nutritional physiology and of discipline-specific research methods and techniques to work within our established research programme.
It is essential that the applicant have prior experience of managing research projects involving nutrition and/or exercise interventions with human participants. Other similar experience might be considered for an exceptional candidate, if it can be clearly demonstrated that this experience will translate into an ability to manage a clinical trial.
The successful applicant will be able to clearly present information on research progress and outcomes. They will be able to communicate complex information both orally and in writing. They will show an aptitude (appropriate to their career stage) for preparing proposals and applications to external bodies.
It is highly desirable that the successful applicant have some experience in venepuncture and in the molecular analysis of blood and other human tissue samples. Prior experience of, or a willingness to learn, skeletal muscle and adipose biopsy techniques would be welcome. The BioActivEx research group uses in vitro approaches to compliment our in vivo human work. Therefore, applicants with cell culture experience would be most welcome.
