We are looking for two highly motivated scientists to join our group to understand the mechanism of chromosome segregation in the kinetoplastid parasite Trypanosoma brucei. The aim of the project is to characterise one or more kinetoplastid kinetochore proteins in Trypanosoma brucei using a variety of techniques including cell biology, biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology and/or mathematical modelling.
The Opportunity:
The successful candidates will join a group led by Dr Bungo Akiyoshi at the Wellcome Centre for Cell Biology at the University of Edinburgh, and will use a variety of techniques to characterise unconventional kinetoplastid kinetochores. The successful candidates will have access to world-class expertise in chromosome biology and research facilities at the University of Edinburgh.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- A PhD in biological science
- Proven track record of high-quality research in cell biology, protein biochemistry, or related field
- Experience in cell biology, biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology and/or mathematical modelling
- An ability to work independently as well as in a research team
- A desire to learn new techniques and to make discoveries
