英国巴斯大学博士后职位招聘–数学科学方向
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath welcomes applications for a Research Associate in probability to work with Dr Matt Roberts, funded by the Royal Society.
About the role
This is a fixed-term position for around 15 months, to start as soon as possible.
The proposed project is entitled “Branching random walks with dormancy among disasters” but candidates will also be encouraged to work on other projects alongside this. The successful candidate will join Prob-L@B, a leading research group consisting of 11 permanent academic staff, 4 postdocs and around 25 PhD students. There are weekly seminars during term-time and regular reading groups and graduate courses. There may also be the opportunity (but not the requirement) to do a small amount of teaching as part of the role.
For informal enquiries about this position please contact Cécile Mailler (cdm37@bath.ac.uk) or Matt Roberts (mir20@bath.ac.uk). However, please submit your application via the University website with:
- an up-to-date CV
- a research statement of up to 2 pages, explaining your work so far and briefly outlining any projects that you would like to work on in the future.
To reduce bias, the first stage of shortlisting for the position will be carried out anonymously, without reference to the CV or research statement, and only using the questions on the application form. Please complete these questions carefully and take care not to reveal your name or other personal details.
About the department
The Department of Mathematical Sciences has over 70 academic staff from all areas of mathematics, and is ranked in the top 100 in the world.
Our Department emphasises the unity of mathematics and there are strong interactions between all research groups: Applied and Interdisciplinary Mathematics (AIMS), Numerical Analysis and Data Science, Probability (Prob-L@B), Statistics, Analysis and PDEs, and Algebra Geometry and Number Theory (AGENT).
Impact is achieved through a wide variety of interdisciplinary research projects and industrial collaborations. These activities are supported by the Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistical Applied Mathematics at Bath (SAMBa), which currently has over 80 PhD students.
In addition, the Bath Institute for Mathematical Innovation (IMI) promotes and supports cross-campus research activities, industrial and international collaborations, in all areas of mathematics and statistics.
Various research centres such as the Centre for Mathematical Biology (CMB), the Centre for Mathematics and Algorithms for Data (MAD), and the Centre for Nonlinear Mechanics (CNM), provide focus in interdisciplinary collaborations.
We hold a Silver departmental Athena Swan award and inclusivity is central to the Department’s ethos.
Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and provides a high quality of life, with good transport links to the rest of the UK and fast train connections to Bristol and London.
