About the Project
Oncogene-induced tumour suppression is an important barrier to tumourigenesis driven by oncogene activation. Bypass of tumour suppression is observed in all cancers and understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms will allow for development of novel therapies that can restore tumour suppression in established cancers. Activation of the MYC oncogene leads to activation of the p53 pathway and loss of p53 therefore cooperates with MYC in tumourigenesis. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying MYC-induced p53 activation remain obscure. Through siRNA screening, we have identified an unexpected role for lipid metabolism in this process. The postholder will use molecular biological, biochemical and lipidomic and proteomic techniques to explore how MYC regulates lipid metabolism and how this leads to p53 activation. In addition, they will use genetic and pharmacological tools to assess whether perturbation of lipid metabolism can elicit tumour suppression in mouse models of MYC-induced lymphomagenesis.
About You
The post requires a dedicated, motivated and passionate postdoctoral research assistant who will lead this study. Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant subject and provide three good references. The study requires substantial skills in cell and molecular biology and will require in vivo testing of newly created cell-models. First author publications will provide evidence that you have experience in completing studies through to the final manuscript.
About the School/Department/Institute
