Postdoctoral and PhD Position in Neuroscience and Stem Cell
Postdoctoral researcher and PhD candidate positions areavailable in the laboratory of Dr. Ranjie Xu in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences at Purdue University, West Lafayette, to study neurodegenerative (Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias) and neurodevelopmental disorders (Autism).
The Xu laboratory investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms of human brain development and pathogenesis of neurological disorders, focusing on human neurons, microglia, and neuro-immune interactions using human-induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) models. We employ multidisciplinary approaches in our research, including stem cell reprogramming, molecular and cell biology, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, bulk and single-cell RNA-sequencing, patch-clamp recording, pharmacology, animal behavioral testing, and various imaging techniques. Our recent studies successfully generated a hiPSC-based disease modeling system, including in vitro brain organoids and in vivo human-mouse chimeric brain models for interrogating human neurons and microglia function in brain development and neurological disorders, and identified potential therapeutic targets. (Cell Stem Cell. 2019, PMID: 31130512; Nature Communications. 2020, PMID: 32221280; Stem Cell Reports. 2021 PMID: 34297942). For postdoctoral positions, successful candidates are expected to have completed a Ph.D. and/or MD in biological sciences, neuroscience, stem cell, immunology, or a related field. Candidates are also expected to have strong problem-solving, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. To apply, please send a current CV and a cover letter describing your research interests to Dr. Ranjie Xu (xu1726@purdue.edu).
