Postdoctoral Associate – Gut Microbiome, Sleep and Cognition Study
This is a one-year post-doctoral fellowship, with the possibility of a second year contingent on funding and satisfactory productivity. Postdoctoral fellows will further their research and training agendas through formal mentorship and coursework, seminars, conferences, and other career development activities. Each fellow will have a primary mentor assisted by other mentors in a team approach. They will work with established investigators on research projects and be expected to prepare and submit manuscripts for publication, present at local and national conferences, and develop and submit at least one grant proposal by the end of the fellowship term. Fellows will be trained in community-based participatory research methods and population health science. The primary responsibilities will be related to the NIMHD-funded “Microbiome profiles, sleep, and cognition among mid-life Latinx adults” study. This five-year R01-equivalent study is part of the FIU-RCMI – Research Center in Minority Institutions. The post-doctoral fellow will engage with participants and mentees using evidence-based data collection methods and produce scientific evidence with the ultimate goal of increasing health equity related to sleep and cognition, including their behavioral risk factors.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Design and administration of data collection tools
Assisting participants with completing data collection instruments
Recruiting participants
Screening participants
Communication with participants
Data collection and data entry
Administering cognitive tests remotely
Medical record data abstraction (pertinent diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment)
Oversee the schedule of follow-up study visits
Data audit and cross-checks
Conducting literature searches and manuscript drafting
Conference abstract and presentation preparation
Assist with the coordination of all protocol and procedure training sessions
Assist with regulatory compliance issues such as tracking and recording protocol-specific certifications and procedure certifications
Coordinate the evaluation of procedures implemented during study implementation to determine necessary design and logistical changes
Assist with the creation of statistical and data management reports
Schedule, coordinate, and conduct training sessions about project/study
Develop, design, and coordinate production and assist with the distribution of marketing materials for studies
Oversee updates of the manual of operations (SOP), data collection forms, and websites associated with study
Pick-up and drop-off of study devices to participants’ houses (as a backup)
Assist in writing scientific papers for publication
Assist with the preparation and submission of grants
Participate in weekly research team meetings
Performs other related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Requirements:
PhD in a relevant discipline,
CITI certification (social/behavioral) involving human subjects and health privacy
Demonstrated ability to work in a highly productive independent manner in a fast-paced setting,
Advanced literature search and writing experience
Evidence of quantitative data analysis experience
Impeccable punctuality and reliability are essential
