The laboratory of Professor Ruobo Zhou in the Department of Chemistry and Department of Bioengineering, and in the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences, at The Pennsylvania State University, seeks to fill a postdoctoral research position in the field of super-resolution fluorescence bioimaging.
The candidate will work on synthetic chemistry to develop fluorescent probes for super-resolution fluorescence imaging of biological systems related to human diseases and in a highly interdisciplinary environment. PI has strong publication record with 8 papers published in Science, Nature, and Cell. The PI’s full publication list can be found here: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=-HscT38AAAAJ&hl=en, and more information about the PI and the lab can be found here: https://science.psu.edu/chem/people/rkz5110
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
1) Strong synthetic skills are required. The candidate should have experiences with multi-step synthesis of natural products, fluorescent probes, small-molecule inhibitors, or PROTAC degraders.
2) Familiar with simulation of ligand-protein interactions (Pymol, VMD, Maestro, etc.).
3) The applicant must have recently received, or be scheduled to receive, a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biophysics or Pharmaceutical/Medicinal Chemistry.
4) One or more publications as the first author.
Additional competency-enhancing skills (not required but will be a plus): fluorescence microscopy, cell culture, cloning, protein purification, binding affinity measurement (ITC, SPR, etc.), quantitative image analysis, and/or computer programming (Matlab, Python, or similar). Knowledge in cell biology, neurobiology, immunology, cancer biology, or RNA biology.
How to apply:
Interested and qualified applicants must submit applications electronically to include a cover letter describing your background, prior training, and research interests, as well as a CV which includes a list of publications. The application should be sent to ruobo.zhou_at_psu.edu. Following a screening of these initial application materials, appropriate candidates will be contacted by email for letters of reference. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one-year from the date of hire with a possibility of re-funding. Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
