We are hiring a post-doctoral research associate to work on the BUA funded project, “Exploring gender-specific determinants and contexts of migrant health from an integrated Global Health perspective.” The project tackles the intertwining of health, migration and gender, utilizing survey data and analysis. Specifically, it involves a) analysing the existing surveys to assess migrants’ participation in healthcare and its social, cultural, and institutional determinants; b) conducting experimental surveys among migrants in Germany to assess factors affecting their participation in Covid vaccination and cancer testing, and c) conducting experimental surveys to study cultural and political factors affecting Female Genital Mutilation in the migrant context of Germany and Sierra Leone. The research associate is to collaborate with members of the research team in the design and production of survey data, as well as in the analysis and publications produced in this context.
Job description:
- Contributing conceptually and empirically to the study of global health processes,
- particularly in relation to migrations and gender;
- Taking responsibility for designing and implementing multi-sited, experimental surveys;
- Publishing empirically grounded research, together with the project team, preferably in international, peer-reviewed journals
Requirements:
A doctoral degree in Sociology or a related social science discipline with an interest in cross-disciplinary research and exchangesDesirable:
- Profound knowledge and experience of quantitative methods of empirical social research;
- Empirical interest in the political and cultural processes of global health and sociological determinants of health outcomes;
- Competence in survey research methods, including design, sampling, programming and administration of survey questionnaires and survey experiments;
- Competence in data visualization and presentation tools (e.g. R, Python, etc.), or willingness to learn;
- Ability to write and publish in social science journals;
- Competence in compilation of reports for non-academic audience and media outlets;
- Ability to work independently and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team;
- Strong organizational and communication skills;
- Excellent command of written and spoken English, preferably also another language.
