About us
We are one of the world’s leading research centres for the study of prions and their wider relevance to neurodegenerative disease with a growing research activity in Alzheimer’s disease (www.prion.ucl.ac.uk). The Institute is highly multidisciplinary with close integration of structural and molecular biology, genetics, cellular and animal models, small molecule and immuno-therapeutics and clinical research.
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to join one of our Research Programmes within the Unit led by Dr Wenjuan Zhang. The main objectives of the post-doc are to lead a study of the Cryo-EM structures of yeast prions, interpret the results in yeast and relate the findings to neurodegenerative disease proteins. This is a 12 month fixed-term role in the first instance, with a full time salary of £38,308 pa (inclusive of London Allowance). Appropriate Agenda security checks will be required to carry out this role. This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship. About you
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who will thrive in a laboratory with a friendly and supportive atmosphere. The successful candidate should have a PhD in structural biology, cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology or a relevant subject area. The successful candidate should have extensive experience in protein purification and protein biochemistry. Training in Cryo-EM can be provided in the group. The candidate should be able to work independently and have good communication skills to work in a team.
