The Mezu-Ndubuisi Lab at the University of Rochester in the Departments of Pediatrics and Ophthalmology is seeking a motivated, highly qualified, and creative scientist with expertise in retinal pathophysiology and cellular/ molecular biology to join our collaborative, interdisciplinary research program
The post-doctoral candidate will report to Principal Investigator in conducting vision science research both in a basic and clinical sciences. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to research exploring mouse model of oxygen-induced retinopathy using in vivo and histological techniques, investigating the molecular mechanisms of disease and evaluating potential novel therapies. Ideal candidates will have experience directly managing and supervising research projects throughout a project lifecycle. Candidate must be detail-orientated, self-motivated, a quick learner, collaborate well with team members, and have excellent problem-solving skills. Applicants must be passionate about conducting scientific research, demonstrate ethics and integrity, and can work both independently and as an effective member of a team with research and clinical staff.

Project Description: Retinopathy of Prematurity is a potentially blinding condition in premature infants exposed to supplemental oxygen and other contributing risk factors, characterized by aberrant retinal angiogenesis and dysregulation of vascular endothelial growth factor with long-standing effects on neurodevelopment due to unclear molecular mechanisms. The successful applicant will lead projects aimed at elucidating molecular mechanisms and exploring therapies in a mouse model of oxygen-induced retinopathy. Relevant techniques to be utilized include Ocular imaging (fluorescein angiography, spectral domain optical tomography, electroretinography, animal tissue extraction for histological and molecular studies (immunohistochemistry, ELISA, qPCR’s, Western Blot, flow cytometry, RNA sequencing, microarray, etc.). The position will also involve authorship of manuscripts and presentation of data at national and international conferences. New graduates or those having completed all formalities of graduation should apply. Training will be provided as needed.
