The laboratory of Pawel R. Kiela, DVM, PhD is seeking candidates for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate I or II to pursue studies in the role of gut microbiota in children’s post-infectious autoimmune encephalopathy (CPAE). This work will be conducted in the Steele Children’s Research Center and CPAE Center of Excellence in the Department of Pediatrics, in collaboration with the Department of Immunobiology. Research involves analysis of gut microbiota from patients and testing the susceptibility to infection with Streptococcus pyogenes in germ-free mice humanized with the patients’ gut microbiota on neuroinflammation and behavior. Candidates should have a PhD, DVM, or MD and a strong foundation in neuroinflammation and immunology. Candidates with a background in brain research and experience with mouse models are of particular interest. The successful candidate will join a team working in a research field with promising clinical applications.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Immunological and molecular biological assays in vitro and in vivo.
Supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
Write manuscripts and knowledge of relevant literature.
Write and assist with grants.
PhD, DVM, or MD degree.
Expertise in neuroinflammation and associated tools.
Proficiency in mouse handling, brain histology and immunofluorescence, immunologic techniques, flow cytometry, cytokine assays, molecular biology techniques, mammalian cell culture, iPSC culture and differentiation. Experience with aspects of microbiology is a plus.
