Postdoctoral Scientist – Enzymology and Assay Development
Centre for Medicines Discovery, NDM Research Building, Old Road Campus, Roosevelt Drive, Oxford, OX3 7FZ
We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Scientist with expertise in enzymology and biochemistry to join the ARUK-ODDI. Based at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, you will join The Alzheimer’s Research UK Oxford Drug Discovery Institute (ARUK-ODDI), which is one of three research institutes sponsored by Alzheimer’s Research UK and charged with uncovering novel therapeutic approaches for dementia.
Reporting to the Assay Development and Screening Team Leader, you will employ cutting-edge biochemical and biophysical research techniques to carry out biophysical characterisation of new proteins and develop biochemical and biophysical assays that will allow for the discovery of new chemical matter. You will be a key member of target-based project teams that ‘own’ a project and, by designing and implementing screening and compound evaluation cascades, will drive the project forward towards the next stage of early drug discovery. You will develop and execute experiments to explore the mechanism of our targets and provide insight into the mode of action of small molecule modulators.
It is essential that you hold a PhD (or close to completion) in Biochemistry or a related subject, and have previous experience in in vitro assay development including biochemical and biophysical assays (HTRF, enzyme activity assays, BLI, SPR, mass spectrometry). You will have a strong background in protein biochemistry/enzymology with experience of analysis of enzyme kinetics and determination of mechanism of action. It is essential that you are reliable, well-organised, showing meticulous attention to detail and the ability to effectively collaborate within a dynamic team environment. You will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meeting.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 2 years and is funded by ARUK.
Only applications received before 12 midday on 3 February 2023 will be considered. Please quote 162395 on all correspondence.
