英国邓迪大学博士后职位招聘–单粒子低溫EM进行结构研究
The School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee is a world-class academic institution with a reputation for the excellence of its research, its high-quality teaching and student experience, and the strong impact of its activities outside academia. With 900 staff from over 60 countries worldwide the School provides a dynamic, multi-national, collegiate and diverse environment with state-of-the-art laboratory, technology and teaching facilities.
The Kulathu lab at the MRC Protein Phosphorylation & Ubiquitylation Unit, University of Dundee is looking for applicants who have a Ph.D. and experience in cryo-EM that can be applied to study multiprotein complexes important for cellular function.
We study signal transduction mechanisms with a focus on the mechanism and function of ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like modifiers in maintaining cellular homeostasis. We use a multidisciplinary approach to our research combining biochemistry, protein engineering, cell biology, structural biology and proteomics. This project builds on our recent work (Peter et al EMBO J 2022, Millrine et al Cell reports 2022, Lange et al Structure 2021) and aims to characterise complexes involved in forming and transducing ubiquitin and UBL signals in cells. The candidate will join a stimulating, diverse and collaborative research environment. Strong mentorship will be provided to help candidates achieve their career goals.
Your priorities will include:
- Undertaking research aimed at understanding the molecular mechanisms of signalling by ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like modifiers in maintaining cellular homeostasis.
- Project development and implementation, including experimental design; identification and development of a broad range of techniques necessary to achieve the research.
- Working collaboratively, coordinating with collaborators, and assisting with the training of PhD students and other lab members
- Presenting scientific work at internal seminars and at external meetings.
- Contributing to the preparation of research for publication
Who we’re looking for:
Successful candidates will have a strong background in structural studies using single particle CryoEM and a track record in conducting excellent research. You should be creative and ambitious, enthusiastic to study and solve complex biological questions, and have excellent communication skills.
Candidates are expected to have expertise in:
- Recombinant protein expression and purification
- In vitro reconstitution and characterisation of multiprotein complexes
- Biochemistry & structural biology
- Experience in cryo-EM/ET and integrative structural biology, particularly data processing
- Experience with cryo-electron tomography would be advantageous.
The position is available for 3 years in the first instance.
Appointment as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant on the Grade 7 salary scale is dependent upon you having been awarded a Ph.D. An appointment may be considered if you are shortly expected to be awarded a Ph.D. In this case, the initial appointment would be made as a Research Assistant on the Training Grade 7 salary scale (Spinal Point 25 – 28).
