This is a re-advertisement, previous applicants need not apply
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral Researcher who will play a key role in this exciting new research activity, with responsibility for working on development of machine learning models in large scale datasets to explore cardiovascular disease progression in young people.
You will work with the UK Biobank data of brain and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, blood pressure, blood biomarkers and retinal imaging to investigate the phenotypes of hypertension related disease progression in the general population. In addition, the researcher will have access to novel large scale datasets collected by the research group within observational studies and randomised trials within the UK and internationally in young adults predisposed to early hypertension and stroke. You will use unsupervised learning approaches to derive novel features that are relevant for hypertension from imaging data, but will use existing tools to extract known image-derived features (e.g. volumes). The group aims to create tools that are clinically useful for monitoring hypertensive disease progression in young adults and to identify effective preventative strategies.
As the researcher you will be an active team member working with other post- doctoral researchers and DPhil students contributing to the dynamic and fast moving research environment. You will also develop contacts and research collaborations within the Department and the wider academic community in order to further your project and career aims. You will have opportunities to represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the group or alone
You are required to hold a relevant PhD/DPhil, together with relevant experience. Candidates that are in the late stage of their DPhil will also be considered. You would also be expected to have experience of using imaging data (e.g. brain and/or cardiovascular) within computational models. Previous experience with MR imaging including harmonising MR data from different scanners would be desirable.
This is a full time appointment on a fixed term contract for 2 year, with the possibility of a 1 year extension. This post is funded by a new Medical Research Council Programme Grant and you will be based at the Cardiovascular Clinical Research Facility, Level 1, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, OX3 9DU.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online; you will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement which explains how you meet the selection criteria for the post.
Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 19 January 2023 can be considered. Interviews are scheduled to place at the beginning of February.
