Postdoctoral Research Associate in Laboratory Microbiology
NDM Experimental Medicine, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford
Join one of the country’s leading groups working in infectious diseases and pathogen genomics!
The Modernising Medical Microbiology (MMM) consortium at the University of Oxford is amongst the country’s foremost groups working in infectious diseases in the UK, aiming to improve diagnostics and fight antimicrobial resistance. MMM undertakes large-scale epidemiological studies and pathogen sequencing, using a diverse range of sequencing technologies. We are also driving methods and technological developments to enable the implementation of pathogen sequencing in routine clinical diagnostic workflows, including direct from clinical specimen sequencing, and antimicrobial susceptibility phenotype prediction from pathogen sequence data.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated post-doctoral research associate with strong laboratory and molecular microbiology skills to join an established, dynamic, multi-disciplinary team as part of the Modernising Medical Microbiology (MMM) consortium.
This post creates an opportunity for a post-doctoral research assistant to make a substantial contribution to the development of novel diagnostic workflows for antimicrobial resistance detection and infection transmission monitoring. A key aspect of the work will be the optimisation of workflows to facilitate high-throughput sequencing direct from clinical sample and with rapid turnaround times. Specifically, this post creates the opportunity to contribute to a challenging and evolving area of research aiming to directly inform patient care.
You will have a relevant Dphil/ PhD, strong laboratory skills and a background in culture-based and molecular microbiology, the ability to work autonomously and manage your own research, an enquiring and flexible attitude and an interest in working collaboratively with researchers from different disciplines. Experience of working with next generation sequencing lab workflows is highly desirable as is an interest in sequence data processing. The opportunity is also available for the successful candidate to develop and lead a specific area of their own research interest from within the ongoing research activities of the group.
The post is full time and fixed term for 24 months in the first instance (or end date of 31st March 2025 depending on start date).
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.
Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Thursday 9 January 2023 will be considered.
