Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Hereditary Cancers
Job Summary:
A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available immediately at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute in the Childhood Cancer and Blood Research group (MAXWELL laboratory). The focus of the lab is to investigate the molecular basis of cell division and differentiation, and apply that knowledge towards the better understanding and treatment of hereditary and childhood tumors.
Recent work relevant to this position has been published by the Maxwell lab and collaborators in Cell Reports 2020 (PMID: 32187533) and Nature Communications 2022 (PMIDs: 35393420, 35459234). More information about the lab can be found at https://www.bcchr.ca/maxwell-lab or https://www.bcchr.ca/cmaxwell.

The successful candidate will report directly to Dr. Christopher Maxwell, the principal investigator, and will work in a strongly collaborative and collegial fashion with cross-functional project team members to meet research goals and objectives.
Work Performed:
The postdoctoral fellow will lead a project to study the interplay of genome instability and immune surveillance using a number of model systems, including human and murine cell lines, animal models and primary tissues, both diseased and normal. Candidates with the following experience or research interest are preferred: using animal models, primary cell culture, high content and live cell imaging technologies, using biochemical and molecular approaches to investigate cell division or tumor cell death or the immune environment.
Consequence of Error:
The successful applicant is expected to exercise a considerable amount of judgment, responsibility, and initiative in determining work procedures and methods. They must carefully observe and evaluate their work. All works are subjected to assessment by Dr. Maxwell. Consistent poor judgment decisions or errors can result in data loss, incorrect data interpretation and/or potential loss of funding.
Supervision Received:
The applicant is expected to work independently under the direction of Dr. Maxwell, who will be available to provide consultation on unusual problems and project developments.
Supervision Given:
Assist with training graduate students and junior lab staff.
Qualifications:
We are looking for an independent individual, who strives for a next position as Assistant Professor or independent Staff Scientist. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, have obtained his/her Ph.D. in the field of molecular or cellular biology, immunology, neuroscience or a related discipline within the last two years and possess the ability to work independently and demonstrate creativity.
How to apply:
