Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Job description
INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY
Faculty of Health and Life Sciences
The post
The College wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in developing experimental assays to determine the minimal selective concentrations of antifungals. This Environment Agency funded post is available from 1st November 2022 to 31st March 2023. The successful applicant will perform experimental work with strains of yeast to develop experimental assays that can determine the minimal selective concentration of antifungals.
The post will include culture-based experiments (e.g. minimum inhibitory concentration assays, growth rate assays), evolution experiments and some molecular work (e.g., DNA extraction, whole genome sequencing and analysis).
About you
The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in fungal biology, particularly antifungal resistance, and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to conduct laboratory experiments with yeast, problem solve, and analyse and present (written and verbally) data collected.
