Description
Postdoctoral Research Scientist
John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford, OX3 9DU
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to make a substantial contribution to an MRC funded multi- disciplinary research programme led by Professor Huiling Tan. The project aims to: 1. investigate the role of oscillatory electrophysiological brain activities in motor control, affective processing and decision making; 2. understand how abnormal interactions between brain cells cause symptoms in neurological and psychiatric disorders; 3. use invasive and non-invasive brain stimulation to probe the causal relationship between neural network dynamics and behaviour; and 4. leverage these insights to pioneer closed-loop approaches to therapeutic brain stimulation for better treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders.
Your duties will include managing academic research and administrative activities, developing and adapting new research methodologies, and collaborating in the preparation of research publications. You will also provide guidance to junior members of the research group including research assistants, PhD students, and/or project volunteers.
The successful candidate will hold or be close to completing a relevant PhD/DPhil or equivalent in a quantitative discipline (e.g. computer science, engineering, physics) or neuroscience. They will have experience with designing, programming and setting up experiments with human participants with simultaneous electrophysiological recordings (such as EEG, LFP, MEG) or brain stimulation manipulation (DBS or non-invasive stimulation such as tACS, tDCS, TMS,). They will also have strong programming skills and experience in signal processing for EEG, LFP or MEG. Experience in computational modelling and machine learning algorithms and real-time signal acquisition and processing is desirable.
The post is fixed term for 2 years in the first instance (with latest end date 31st March 2025).
Only applications received before 12:00 midday on 21st November 2022 will be considered.
