Postdoctoral Researcher in the Small-Scale Mechanical Testing of Titanium and Nickel Alloys in Harsh Environments
University of Oxford
Description
Postdoctoral Researcher in the Small-Scale Mechanical Testing of Titanium and Nickel Alloys in Harsh Environments
Department of Materials, Parks Road, Oxford
The Vacancy
This postdoctoral position is part of the ‘Fatigue Testing beyond Extremes’ EPSRC Grant (https: // gow.epsrc.ukri.org/NGBOViewGrant.aspx?GrantRef=EP/T026529/1) on small scale mechanical properties of titanium and nickel alloys.
The Person
With a background in Materials or Materials Engineering, you will be self- motivated and able to plan and deliver a research project. You will have a PhD (or be near completion) in an appropriate area of materials science and hands-on experience with some of nanoindentation, micromechanical testing, micropillar and microcantilever fabrication, SEM, ECCI, EBSD, TKD, EDX, FIB and PFIB techniques.
The Project
This is a collaborative project between Oxford and the CCFE Materials Research Facility and Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, and two industrial partners.
The post holder will undertake independent research on small-scale mechanical testing of titanium and nickel samples in harsh environments, participate in the coordination of the project with collaborators and provide guidance to less experienced members of the research group, including PhD and project students.
