Department Summary
Research and innovation are integral parts of the Mechanical Engineering department at The University of North Texas, a Carnegie Tier One research institution. The department offers state-of-the-art facilities ranging from a variety of instructional laboratories to research facilities including the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) laboratory. The focus of the CFD lab research is laid on developing numerical methods for biofluid modeling, turbulent flow modeling, two-phase free-surface flow modeling, particulate flow modeling, fluid-structure interactions, deterministic and stochastic simulation-based design and optimization, uncertainty quantification, and high-performance computing methodology. The code development and models are primarily for ocean engineering applications (ship hydrodynamics, wave/winds, stratified flows), biomedical applications (cardiac flow, aortic and mitral valves hemodynamics, LVAD), and energy systems (onshore and offshore wind turbines, wave energy converter).
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Summary
The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) lab in the Mechanical Eng. Department at the University of North Texas (UNT) is seeking for Postdoctoral Research Associate to:
Develop immersed boundary method (IBM)-based numerical techniques along with fluid-structure interaction algorithms for single and two-phase fluids
Validate the developed numerical methods using benchmark test cases
Apply the developed models to primarily study morphing/deformation of structures in biomedical engineering applications (e.g. calcific aortic valve disease modeling) and ocean engineering applications (e.g. water entry modeling)
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related fields
Demonstrate excellent algorithm development skills and experience in developing CFD software packages using Fortran/C/C++ and script programming languages
Demonstrate strong skills and experience in high-performance computing
Demonstrated experience in the modeling and simulation using immersed boundary
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience of coding in OpenFOAM
Prior experience of working on coupling fluid and solid solvers using open-source coupling libraries such as preCICE
Familiar with pre and post-processing software development tools such as Pointwise and Tecplot
Graduate or post-graduate experience at a U.S. Academic Institution or National Laboratory
Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate
Area of Specialty
CFD
Security Sensitive: This is a security sensitive position.
