About This Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher to perform MRI sequence programming and develop super-resolution deep-learning methods to quantitate kidney glomeruli ex vivo and tubular structure in vivo as part of a research team funded by an Australian Research Council Discovery Project grant. This position may also be required to contribute to PhD student supervision.
Key responsibilities will include:
Research
- Support research activities, as directed, in the area of kidney MR imaging in human and in a mouse model.
- Develop methods that counter the effects of physiological motion on in vivo diffusion imaging of renal tubules, including motion insensitive MRI sequences for in vivo kidney imaging, and super-resolution deep learning approaches to quantitate glomeruli and to encounter the effects of physiological motion.
- Data management of the project.
- Assist in the application for external research funding.
Supervision and Researcher Development
- Contribute to the Centre’s teaching activities.
- Consult with students
- Working to promptly resolve conflict and grievances when they arise in accordance with University policy and procedures.
Collaboration
- Provide support to other academic positions and unit operations as needed during other team members absences.
- Contribute to internal service roles and administrative processes as required, including participation in decision-making and service on relevant committees.
- Begin to develop external links and partnerships by cultivating relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.

About You
Essential
- PhD in the area of magnetic resonance imaging with skills in sequence programming, image processing and analysis.
- Evidence of a contribution to research as evidenced by number and quality of peer-reviewed journal publications.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills.
- High attention to detail with a combination of strong planning skills.
- Adaptability and flexibility to problem-solving to meet changing needs.
Desirable
- A high level of skill image processing using deep learning/AI.
- A high level of proficiency in scientific computer programming.
- Contribution to effective supervision of students.
What We Can Offer
This is a full-time, fixed-term position through to May 2025 at Academic Level A.
The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range AUD$72,144 – $96,530 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range AUD$84,408 – $112,940 per annum.
