Position Overview
Essential Job Duties
The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) (www. ce.ncsu.edu) at North Carolina State University (NCSU) is one of the largest and most distinguished departments in the country (https:// www. ce.ncsu.edu/research/wree/).
NCSU is a research-oriented land-grant institution located in Raleigh, North Carolina and is an anchor of North Carolina’s Research Triangle.
The new research center will build fundamental understanding of electro-chemo- physical phenomena that govern reaction rates at immobilized enzyme interfaces to unlock the biotechnological potential of essential gas molecule conversions. These findings will reveal routes to dramatically improve mass transfer efficiencies for biocatalyzed carbon dioxide and nitrogen gas reactions, and will lead to advancements in direct electron transfer to carbon dioxide and nitrogen gas-reducing enzymes that will move society closer to a future wherein chemicals, fuels, and materials are synthesized from the air, rather than from fossil carbon resources.
To conduct research in the areas of bioelectrochemistry, process engineering, and analytical method development. Examples include studying enzyme attachment to electrodes, analyzing electrochemical properties of enzyme-electrode interfaces, quantifying the conversion of gases into reduced products as a function of electrochemical variables, and designing, fabricating, and validating and scalable electrochemical cell.
Other Work/Responsibilities
Design research plans, obtain and analyze results, prepare and submit manuscripts, present findings at conferences/symposia, attend research meetings, mentor graduate and/or undergraduate students, and assist with the preparation of research proposals.
