Postdoctoral scholarship in cellular and experimental biology / molecular medicine
University of Gothenburg (GU)
The Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine at the Institute of Medicine hereby announces a scholarship at postdoctoral level in Cellular and Experimental Biology / Molecular Medicine.
Background: The Borén (https://www.gu.se/en/about/find-staff/janboren) and Grøtli (https://www.grotlilab.net/) laboratories at the University of Gothenburg (UGOT) collaborates closely in a project aiming at developing pyruvate kinase inhibitors as lead compounds for the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The project is done in close collaboration with the Hyvönen laboratory (https://hyvonen.bioc.cam.ac.uk/) at the University of Cambridge, UK.
Purpose: We aim to generate optimised lead molecules with proof-of-concept data from cellular assays, along with a comprehensive assay cascade including protein-ligand structure determination. This package will include at least two distinct lead chemical series that show clear, rational SAR, significant inhibition of PKL in enzymatic assay and in cell culture conditions, as evidenced by reduced lipid biosynthesis and with good developability characteristic for optimisation into a clinical candidate.
Method: Molecular medicine including transduction/transfection of cells, purification and extraction of proteins and RNA, as well as subsequent protein analysis (Western blot, ELISA), and RNA expression analysis (rtPCR, qPCR).
Time plan: 2-year project
Outcome: The research groups led by Jan Borén and Morten Grøtli have different but complementary skills and research profiles. Their combined research environment is therefore an excellent environment for scientific advancement. Both groups have senior people who can support and act as supervisors in the laboratories. The fellowship will give excellent opportunity for scientific advancement, conditions for broadening technical and theoretical skills and give excellent conditions for postdoctoral studies.
Period: Start 1 July 2022, for 24 months
If you require any further information, please contact Jan Borén, jan.boren@wlab.gu.se, supervisor.
Application: Interested candidates should send a single PDF file composed by
• Cover letter (1 page)
• CV (3 pages max)
• A complete publication list
• The contact information of 3 references (one of whom should be your PhD advisor)
• A copy of your PhD certificate. PhD must be completed within three years of the application deadline.
• A completed ”Application for a scholarship at postdoctoral level” form (https://www.gu.se/sites/default/files/2020-09/Application%20for%20a%20scholarship%20at%20postdoctoral%20level.pdf).
Submit your application as a PDF marked with the name “Postdoctoral Scholarship in Cellular and Experimental Biology”, both in the file name and in the subject field of the email, to Jan Borén, jan.boren@wlab.gu.se. Application deadline is 15 June 2022.
