Postdoctoral Fellow in Synthetic Organic Chemistry
We are seeking motivated, bright scientists to join our antibiotics drug discovery and development team in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University (Andrew G. Myers Research Group).
Key Responsibilities: A postdoctoral fellow will be required to design and synthesize novel, fully synthetic antibiotics in quantities suitable for in vitro study. A postdoctoral fellow will also be required to design synthetic routes capable of delivering complex target molecules on large scale to enable in vivo study.
Minimum Qualifications:
•PhD in synthetic organic chemistry is required.
•Strong practical knowledge of modern experimental techniques in organic chemistry.
•Capability of planning and executing multistep syntheses, including retrosynthetic analysis of complex organic molecules.
•Ability to think critically and communicate effectively, design and execute experiments independently, and learn new techniques quickly.
•Effective writing skills for maintaining a detailed laboratory notebook and for providing periodic research reports.
Preferred Experience – Competitive candidates will have experience in one or more of the following areas:
•Knowledge of medicinal chemistry principles, including analysis of structure activity relationships and structure-based drug design.
•Experience with antibiotic design principles.
•A proven record of academic achievement as evidenced by publications and/or patents.
Application – Please submit all application materials (cover letter; c.v., including list of publications; and the names and contact information for 2 or 3 referees, who will be asked to upload a letter of recommendation once the application has been submitted) through the ARIeS Portal (https://academicpositions.harvard.edu/postings/11267).
