National Institute on Aging
Postdoctoral fellow
The National Institute on Aging, a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is recruiting one postdoctoral fellow to join the Laboratory of Genetics and Genomics (LGG), Intramural Research Program (IRP), in the Functional Epigenomics Unit headed by Dr. Payel Sen.
Dr. Payel Sen is a Stadtman Investigator in the Laboratory of Genetics and Genomics (https://irp.nih.gov/pi/payel-sen). The Sen lab investigates epigenetic mechanisms driving tissue aging. Trainees in the laboratory routinely perform advanced bulk and single-cell genomics, analyze data using computational tools, utilize mouse models of aging, present research findings in meetings, and access NIH-wide resources and training opportunities.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in biomedicine, less than five years postdoctoral training, and one or more first-author peer-reviewed academic paper(s) in chromosome biology, cancer biology or geroscience. Candidates may be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or foreign nationals. Salary will be commensurate with research experience according to the NIH intramural pay scale. Successful applicants will have:
– Expertise in molecular biology practices, genetics, and genomics
– Knowledge of chromatin and transcription regulation
– Experience in mouse handling, dissection, and histology
– Proficiency in data analysis, knowledge of R and/or python
– Experience in data presentation and statistical analyses
– Ability to clearly communicate both orally and in writing
– Ability to plan and conduct independent research with PI supervision
– Skills to develop contacts and research collaborations within LGG, NIA and other groups
Interested applicants should send a CV, contact information of three references, and a paragraph on a potential project/idea they would like to explore in the field of epigenetics and aging to Dr. Payel Sen (payel.sen@nih.gov) with the subject “Postdoc 2022”.
The position is located in Baltimore, Maryland, a city with a simulating scientific and cultural environment, and is adjacent to the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus. DHHS and NIH are Equal Opportunity Employers. The NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs.
