Essential Job Duties
The Postdoctoral Research Scholar position will join the Quantitative Epidemiology and Risk Modeling team in the Center for Integrated Pest Management (CIPM) at North Carolina State University. The team focuses on a wide range of topics, including predictive modeling and disease simulation, developing risk-based survey and mitigation strategies, and creating decision support tools for agriculture and plant health management.
The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will collaborate with plant pathologists, entomologists, statisticians, and modelers specializing in epidemiology, risk analysis, disease modeling, economic evaluation, and surveillance, to improve analytical tools for decision-making or policy. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
Mathematical and computational modeling of plant disease epidemiology.
Develop predictive risk models and quantitative tools to support integrated pest management programs.
Present research results at professional meetings.
Contribute to creation of presentations, manuscripts, and funding proposals.
Collaborate with USDA-ARS researchers focusing on pests and diseases affecting citrus.
This position will be located in Fort Pierce, FL.
Perform additional duties or tasks as assigned.
Requirements and Preferences
Work Schedule Monday-Friday, 8:00AM – 5:00PM
Department Required Skills
PhD in statistics, mathematics, computer science, data science, or a related field of study.
Experience in mathematical/statistical modeling, simulation, and analysis.
Demonstrated proficiency in at least one programming language (R, Python, C, C++).
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Experience in plant pathology and disease epidemiology.
Familiarity with spatial statistics and geospatial tools (e.g. ArcGIS).
Strong technical communication skills (written and oral).
Required License or Certification
Valid NC Driver’s License required? No Commercial Driver’s License Required? No
Anticipated Hiring Range Commensurate with Experience ($50,000 – $55,000)
