We are looking for candidates that can work closely with scientists in the Weather, Climate, and Society Group and the Center for Research Computing and Data at NIU to apply computationally-informed approaches to weather and climate research questions.
Education and Experience Required
PhD in Computer Science, Atmospheric Science, Geosciences, or related field.
Experience with Python, C/C++, FORTRAN, shell scripting, etc.
Experience and/or familiarity with numerical weather/climate models (e.g., WRF, MPAS, or GFDL-FV3).
Considerable experience working on UNIX systems supporting HPC.
Working Hours M-F 8:00-4:30 Starting Salary Commensurate with experience, education and qualifications; includes a robust benefits package. Minimum Required Qualifications Required Skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Skills
· Experience working with parallel codes using MPI implementations and openMP.
· Experience with machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch etc.
· Experience with source code management systems like Git.
· Experience with gridded scientific data and libraries (netCDF, grib, zarr).
· Experience with preprocessing General Circulation Model (GCM) output.
· Experience developing technical training documentation for users.
· Strong interest in emerging technologies and applications.
· Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects effectively.
