We are looking to admit two (2) outstanding applicants to the “Computational Plasma Research Group” at the Department of Physics, Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. Highly motivated (Turkish or international) Master/Ph.D. students (2 positions) and Postdoctoral researcher (1 position) are encouraged to join our recent research project funded by TÜBİTAK 2557 programme. This project is devoted to the numerical investigation of self-organization and pattern formation in plasma of atmospheric pressure glow discharges.
Project summary
Investigation of spatial and temporal pattern formation in systems driven away from equilibrium is an extensively developing branch of science. Special interest is directed towards gas discharge systems, where the patterns exhibit themselves in the form of self-organized current filaments and spots. This project deals with the numerical study of the current structures emerging in near-electrode regions of direct current glow discharges. Although these structures are interesting in themselves as fundamental physical phenomena, they can affect the stability of discharges, leading to fluctuations in their parameters.

Stipend: Selected candidates will be offered 2 years’ stipend.
Master Scholarship: 4250 TL per month
Ph.D. Scholarship: 5500 TL per month
Postdoctoral Researcher Scholarship: 7500 TL per month
Eligibility criteria
(For a Master Position) Degree in Physics or Engineering Physics
(For the PhD position) Master degree in Physics or Computational Science; General knowledge of low temperature plasmas; Knowledge of numerical modelling
(For the postdoc position) PhD in Physics or Computational Science; Experience in low temperature plasma modeling
Good written and oral English language skills.
