The group uses the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as a model system to study the systemic interplay between whole-animal metabolism and tumour growth. Current research interests in the lab include exploration of the molecular link between diet-induced obesity, tumour growth, and cachexia-like peripheral organ wasting. Our studies are underpinned by multidisciplinary approaches combining fly genetics, imaging, molecular and protein biology approaches, and high-throughput sequencing. The successful candidate must hold a PhD in a relevant biomedical discipline and have a strong interest in metabolism and/or cancer biology. Extensive experience in fly genetics and molecular biology techniques are essential. The successful candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a strong work ethic, meticulous record keeping, and, in addition, develop and carry out his/her own line of research within the group’s areas of interest.
This is an MRC Postdoctoral Research Scientist position providing training and development supporting post-doctoral scientists in early or changed career paths helping establish them as successful research scientists in their chosen field.
