Position Description: A Postdoctoral Associate position is currently available in the Laboratory of Dr. Jie Fan in the Department of Surgery, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. We are looking for a highly self-motivated individual who also possesses excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills. The successful applicant will be responsible for projects associated with several federal-funded studies investigating mechanisms of innate immunity in models of trauma, sepsis and acute lung injury.
The primary focus of the work is on mechanisms of cell-cell interaction in the development of acute lung injury. The position will involve the use of mouse models and primary mouse cells and tissue. Competitive candidates will have experience in flow cytometry, cell sorting, confocal imaging, molecular biology, and immunology. Candidates with experiences in the next generation sequencing will be preferred. The candidate will be supported by the Fan Lab to work both independently and collaboratively, to develop novel experimental tools, to attack cutting edge scientific problems, and to gain experience developing, writing, and submitting fellowship/grant proposals.
The required expertise includes all basic laboratory techniques and biocompatibility assays. The applicant should have command of the English language, good interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, critical thinking ability and evidence of experience and good writing skills through first author publications in peer reviewed journals. The applicant should also be proficient in computer software usage including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical packages.

Degree Requirements: PhD in life sciences or other related discipline.
