Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Bragg Coherent Diffraction Imaging
University of Oxford
Description
We seek a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Hofmann group at the Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford. This post, funded by the European Research Council, is fixed-term to 31st December 2022.
You will develop new Bragg coherent X-ray diffraction imaging (BCDI) techniques and use these to explore how crystal defects modify nano-scale material structure during insitu experiments (e.g. annealing, corrosion). You will plan and carry out BCDI experiments at central facilities and lead the analysis and publication of the resulting data.
You will need to hold a relevant PhD/DPhil (or near completion) in material science / physics / engineering or a closely related subject together with relevant experience, and have experience of BCDI experiments, with a proven ability to develop algorithms to analyse coherent X-ray diffraction data. A strong publication record, excellent communication skills, self- motivation and a willingness to travel for experiments abroad are also essential.
Informal queries may be addressed to Prof Felix Hofmann (felix.hofmann@eng.ox.ac.uk)
Only online applications received before midday on 2nd March 2022 can be considered. You will need to upload a cover letter (including a brief statement of research interests, past experience and future plans and how they fit this position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.
