Within the University, the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is a highly interdisciplinary research centre (IC), integrating experimental biology and computational biology approaches in order to develop the foundation of a future predictive, preventive and personalized medicine.
The Translational Neuroscience Group, led by Prof Rejko Krueger, creates a translational bridge between fundamental and the clinic with a focuse on Parkinson’s disease research, with the aim to improve diagnosis and therapy to help patients in Luxembourg and beyond. We are currently looking for an energetic, highly motivated post-doctoral researcher for a collaborative fundamental biology research project in Parkinson’s Disease (PD).
Tasks / Activities
The post-doctoral researcher will contribute to relevant projects of the Translational Neuroscience Group, in particular to a project of early drug development in in vivo and in vitro models.
The aim of this project is to identify pharmacology active compounds that rescue aberrant splicing involved in the pathogenesis of PD. The project includes development of a screening assay, in vitro high throughput compound screenings using high content imaging readouts and in vivo drug testing.
Specific tasks can include:
Conduct research processes to achieve the goals of the project in an interdisciplinary team approach
Develop methodologies and integrate new technologies
Collect, assemble and evaluate research data
Analyses and interpretation of results obtained
Writing scientific publications and grant applications
Contribution to research reports
Perform advanced molecular and cellular biological experiments such as cloning, gene-editing (CrisPR), qPCR
Generation of viral expression constructs and transduction of patient based cellular models
Perform various biochemical assays and protein purifications
Culture of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) into different CNS- related cell types including 3D cultures (organoids)
Presenting the results at national and international scientific meetings as posters or talks
What we expect from you…
PhD in Cellular Biology, Neuroscience, or related discipline
Strong interest in interdisciplinary research and cellular models of neurodegeneration
Experience in research and laboratory work
Profound knowledge of molecular genetics, biochemistry and cell biology
Previous experience with CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing desirable
Excellent team-working and interpersonal skills
Enthusiasm and great commitment to research
Excellent command of the English language
Exciting international and interdisciplinary research environment
Travel opportunities to national and international meetings as well as participation in specialized trainings
An excellent international network in the area of neurodegenerative research
Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract 24 Month
Work Hours: Part Time 20.0 Hours per Week
