Biomedical Research Postdoctoral Training Opportunity (salary paid according to NIH recommended scale based on experience level), Department of Pathology, School of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, USA.
A postdoctoral position is open in Dr. Wenzhang Wang and Dr. Xiongwei Zhu laboratory in the Department of Pathology, School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). The School of Medicine at CWRU is one of the top medical schools in United States and its Department of Pathology ranks among the top 10 pathology departments in NIH funding.
The Zhu and Wang laboratory has a long history of NIH-supported research on the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases especially Alzheimer disease (AD) and Parkinson disease (PD). A variety of experimental systems are used, including primary and transformed neuronal cells, iPSC-derived human neurons, and multiple mouse models representing these disorders. In addition, a large repository of brain tissues from human patients is also maintained for further study of the spectrum of these neurodegenerative disorders. Currently, the Zhu and Wang lab focuses on understanding the role of mitochondrial dysfunction and neuroinflammation in AD and PD disease development and progression.
Successful candidates must have recently obtained a Ph.D. degree in life sciences or related majors. The candidates should be self-motivated, and previous demonstrated experience, competitive publication record and working knowledge in molecular biology, cell biology and neuroscience techniques are highly preferred. Additional background and working experience with animals is a plus.
