The BundesanstaltfürMaterialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. Your responsibilities include:
Further development of the area of in-situ monitoring based on non- destructive testing methods in BAM’s Centre of Competence for Additive Manufacturing and for other industrial manufacturing processes
Research, further development and development of new thermographic and optical measurement methods for in-situ monitoring, e.g. with the use of multispectral techniques
Development of strategies for innovative measurement data acquisition (e.g. compressed sensing, coded aperture)
Development of algorithms for the extraction of significant information from very large data sets (Big Data) of single and multiple measurement methods (data fusion)
Development of algorithms for reconstruction of built part properties (geometry, material parameters, defects) from measurement data using analytical and numerical models as well as AI methods
Coordination and application of third-party funded projects (e.g. BMBF, BMWI and EU projects)
Collaboration in national and international committees on pre-normative and normative activities for the standardisation of in-situ monitoring with non-destructive testing methods
Supervision of young scientists (student assistants, bachelor and master theses, doctorates)
Further development and maintenance of an international network for in- situ monitoring in additive manufacturing
Publication of results in national and international peer-reviewed journals as well as at conferences
Completed university studies (diploma/master’s degree) with an very good doctorate in physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physical engineering or comparable
Prerequisite is several years of experience and very good knowledge – in the fields of experimental and electronic device development – in the development of analytical and numerical models and algorithms – in the field of thermography (development of methods and theory), proven by many years of professional activity and refereed publications – in the field of quality assurance in additive manufacturing – in programming with Matlab, Python and C.
Also required are several years of experience in leading multidisciplinary project teams
Experience in establishing scientific networks (internal and external)
A very good command of written and spoken German and English is required
Experience in supervision of young scientists
Ability to carry out determined, independent and self-responsible scientific work, high personal commitment as well as teamwork and communication skills, and conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills
Interdisciplinary research at the interface of politics, economics and society
Work in national and international networks with universities, research institutes and industrial companies
